"Mommy...I cleaned up the living room for you! All by myself!"
I had a late day at work yesterday...I had to work until 5:30, had a 45 minute commute and I had to run to the store. I just KNEW that I had to clean up the house before I served dinner to the family (luckily we had leftovers and my mom put them in the stove). So imagine my surprise when I came in the house and the living room was SPOTLESS.
MIB is only 4 years old, but she's a Montessori baby so she basically learns by cleaning and doing everyday tasks. And when I say the living room was spotless...dammit it was spotless. She cleaned off the couches, fluffed the pillows, helped sweep the floor (Nani helped her with that), picked up stuff off the floor, dusted the tables...looked like Merry Maids flew through the house.
She's at that age where helping is pretty much the most important thing to her because it makes her feel like a "big girl." And she's so sincere about it. When she opened the front door she had this huge. beaming smile on her face that was full of pride and joy that she did a big girl chore.
I really try to keep things as tidy as I can but it's hard when I work 8 hours, run errands, and then I have to clean before I cook (because my mother can't do much due to her arthritis and pinched nerves and tumors on her back) so sometimes some stuff gets neglected...usually the living room. And for MIB to think of how tired I was going to be and to do something so small but so big to her...it just melts my heart.
If I get nothing for Christmas this year, that little thing that she did was enough to make up for a present-less holiday. Damn I love that girl.
YCMs/YCFs: what has your MIB done for you lately out of the blue that puts a smile on your face?
