My 100th Post

Today's NaBloPoMo prompt is: If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?

My 100th post.

I used to love writing more than anything in the world.  I swore up and down that I was going to be the next Toni Morrison.  But I got sidetracked into getting a job that had a consistent check and benefits (my favorite B word).  I always had a place in my heart for writing though.

A few years ago before I had MIB, I had an online magazine for about six months.  I wrote articles, edited them, did interviews, and even had a few writers on my team (who did it for free bless their hearts...and I am so appreciative of that).  Once I found out I was pregnant with MIB and was experiencing the "I need to take at least three naps a day" feeling, I had to stop writing the magazine and concentrate on the baby I was carrying.

After MIB was born, I wanted to write some more so I started this blog.  And for a while I was into like a boss: posting several times a week, getting inspiration from my life, and wanted to perfect my craft.  I even had another blog that I was writing along with it...but my child's illness and my 9-5 (again) cut into my writing time.

Lately I've been thinking about how I raise and spend time with my daughter.  How I want to drop her off and pick her up from school.  How I want to volunteer more at her school.  How I want to be a stay at home mom.  How I want to give my all to her, make money, and not have to worry about commuting or finding a babysitter for after school until I got off of work.

And writing is the best job to have to do that...the job I want to do more than anything in the world (next to being MIB's mommy of course).  I love the freedom, the hours, the new people, the new subjects...just everything about writing is the business.  And it's the business I want to be in.

It'll probably take me a while to really get into writing like I want to: submitting to different magazines and actually getting published, writing that novel I've been writing for eight years, getting Toni Morrison to read the novel I've been writing for eight years (and actually liking it).  But I'm on my way. For me...and MIB.

YCM/YCFs: what is the one job that you'd like to have?

  2. Congrats on your 100th post. I hope you can follow your dreams and accomplish it all. We actually seem to be a lot alike. I'm expecting my first child and will soon "retire" from my job to become a SAHM. That's always been my dream. However, I really want to make it in the world as a writer/entrepreneur as well. :) Good luck!

I'm on my way to your world in a minute..
